Jumia Kenya offers a wide range of products from various categories. 

Some of the categories of products that vendors are allowed to sell through the Jumia Kenya Online Store include Electronics (television, projectors, cameras, sound systems, etc.), Phone & Tablets (mobile phones, tablets, and accessories), Health & Beauty, Home & Office Appliances, Computing, TVs & Audio, Fashion, Gaming, Baby Products, Sporting Goods, Groceries and Other categories.

What is Jumia Affiliate Program?

Also known as Jumia KOL, Jumia Affiliate Program is a pay per sale program that pays affiliates for referring sales or customers to Jumia. 

Here’s how it works.

If you refer a customer to Jumia and they purchases a product within 7 days after clicking on your affiliate’s link, you will get a percentage of the sale price as commission. 

The commission rate ranges from 1% to 13% on each sale. 

To join the Jumia Affiliate Program, you need to sign up on the Jumia Affiliate Program website and wait for approval.

Steps to Register as Jumia Affiliate in Kenya

Before you can start earning through Jumia KOL, you need to create an account and get accepted.

To join the Jumia affiliate program in Kenya, head over to https://kol.jumia.com/ and click on Register.

Provide your details.

These include your;

• First and last name
• Email address (make sure it is legit email)
• Choose password
• Select your country
• Provide your phone number (preferably, MPESA phone number)

The next step is to choose your account type.

So there are three types of accounts accepted on Jumia;

#1. Affiliates

Do you have a Website, App, blog, social media page, or group that allows you to operate in the fields of Cashback, Deals, Reviews, Email Marketing, Loyalty Programs, Coupons, Price Comparisons, or similar ventures?

If so, then register yourself as a Jumia Affiliate and start promoting!

#2. Creator/Micro-influencer

If you identify yourself as a content creator who loves to give recommendations and reviews to your small (Minimum 5K followers) but loyal followers across social media platforms?

Then register yourself as a Micro-Influencer / Creator and start recommending Jumia products!

#3. Mega Influencer

This is for an individual with huge and well-established social media followers, your posts are enough to make your followers want to purchase that item as soon as possible!

Still not sure which program suits you better? 

Easy!

Select any account type you deem fit, and Jumia’s team will assess your profile based on your engagement level, your follower’s metrics, and your reach, and assign the right program for you!

Finally, provide a link to your blog/website or social media page.

Then agree to their terms and click Register.

From here, your application will be reviewed, and Jumia will revert.

Setting Up Your Jumia Affiliate Program Account 

Once accepted, you will receive a confirmation email. 

Then you can just log in and start promoting products to earn online with Jumia in Kenya.

But before you can fully get down to business, there are a couple of things you need to take care of.

a. Add Your Information

Adding your information is a crucial step when joining the Jumia affiliate program in Kenya. 

Once you’ve been accepted into the program, you need to log into your account and complete your profile by filling in all the necessary details. 

This includes providing your personal information such as name, email address, phone number, and physical address.

And a link to your website or social media profile (if you didn’t as you were signing up).

b. Linking Your Payment Method 

After signing up, you will need to link your preferred payment method to receive payments for the commissions earned from promoting Jumia products. 

The process is simple and straightforward.

Firstly, log in to your affiliate account dashboard on Jumia’s website and navigate to the “Account Details” section. 

Under the ‘INFO’ section, provide your TAX ID, which can be your National ID then save changes.

In the ‘ADDRESS’ section, key in your address. This is where you live.

Finally, under the ‘Payout Details,’ you can select from a variety of payment methods available depending on your preference. 

In Kenya, popular options include M-Pesa and bank transfers.

Next, enter your payment details accurately as requested by the platform. 

You may be required to provide additional information such as bank account numbers or SWIFT transfer codes where applicable.

Once done, all commissions earned will be automatically paid out through this linked method on a regular basis according to their payout schedule. 

Promoting Your Affiliate Links in Kenya

The next step is to start promoting products on Jumia to earn commissions.

Here’s how.

a. Choosing Products to Promote 

When it comes to earning through the Jumia affiliate program in Kenya, one of the most important steps is choosing the products you want to promote. 

With thousands of products available on the Jumia platform, it can be overwhelming to decide which ones are right for your audience and will generate sales.

To start, consider your niche or area of expertise. 

For example, if you run a fashion blog, you may want to focus on promoting clothing and accessories from Jumia’s fashion category. 

Or if you have a cooking website, you could promote kitchen appliances and ingredients from Jumia’s grocery section.

Another factor to keep in mind when choosing products is their popularity and demand among your audience.

b. Generating Links 

Once you’ve decided on the products to promote, the next step is to generate links.

Here, you are essentially inserting your affiliate ID into the product URL to make it trackable.

Now, there are two ways to generate affiliate links on Jumia and I will explain both.

#1. Offers

This can be found under the Advertising tab on your KOL dashboard.

With this type, you can pick links from provided categories and start promoting.

For example, to promote phones, look for phones category.

Click on it to open and then copy the URL.

Or share it directly to your Facebook account.

Also, you can shorten the link by checking the ‘Shorten URL’ box below the URL.

If scroll down, you will see a banner.

Click on the download button to download this banner.

And if you have a website, copy the Banner Code and paste it to any page you want this banner to appear on your website.

One more thing.

You can choose the size of the banner.

Some come with more sizes, while others only have one size available.

Pros of this method: your affiliate links are trackable in both the browser and the app. This means that when someone clicks on your links and buys on either the Jumia app or their internet browser, you earn.

Cons of this method: you cannot promote a specific product. This means that if I want to promote the latest Xiaomi Redmi 12C phone, I don’t have a choice but send the buyer the link to the entire phones category.

But there’s a way around this.

#2. Custom links

Can be accessed under Advertising >> Custom links.

Here’s how it works.

First, go to Jumia, find the product you’d wish to promote, and then copy the URL.

Come and paste the link you copied here?.

Then a trackable affiliate link will be automatically generated.

You can then copy or share it directly to your Facebook page.

Like Offers, custom links have both up and downsides.

The upside of using this method is that you can send someone to a specific product they wanted.

The downside is that this method is only trackable through the browser.

This means if you send someone a link generated through custom links and they buy right on the app, you won’t make anything.

Jumia says this is an issue they are working to resolve. 

I guess we will wait and see.

Additional Tracking Parameters

I am sure you wonder what these boxes are for.

First, you don’t need them.

It is not a must to fill them.

But if you want to have a detailed report later, you can use this section to make that happen.

How?

• Sub affiliate ID – use this section if you have someone else helping you promote the links. You can input their phone number as their ID. Later, it is easier to see whether their efforts actually resulted in a sale.
• Channel – where are you promoting these links on? If you have a blog, input the name of your website here. If you are using Facebook, type Facebook. Now, here’s where this section comes in handy. Say I have two places I push my affiliate links; my blog and WhatsApp. I will generate two separate links for each channel and tag it appropriately. Later, when I get a conversion, I can see what channel gave me the sale.
• Tracking tag – let me give you an example to understand this section. Say I have a blog, right. I have published a ton of posts and monetized using affiliate links, how do I know which posts makes me money? Here’s how. Just enter the post short title here. That’s just an example, I bet there are other ways to use Tracking tag.

c. Sharing Your Affiliate Links 

Once you have generated the links, you need to promote them to earn.

To maximize your earnings, it is important to strategically share these links with your audience. 

You can include them in product reviews, comparison articles, or top 10 lists related to the products available on Jumia. 

It is also recommended that you disclose that these are affiliate links to ensure transparency with your readers or followers.

However, it is important not to spam or excessively promote these links as this may turn off potential customers and harm the reputation of both yourself and Jumia.

Instead, focus on providing valuable content and building trust with your audience so that they are more likely to click on and make purchases through your affiliate links. 

One way I earn consistently through the Jumia affiliate program in Kenya is through niche websites.

These are blogs dedicated to specific topics.

For example, I have a website only dedicated to talking about headphones.

Here, I publish articles, reviews, and news about headphones in Kenya. 

And insert links to headphones on Jumia.

Must you have a website to earn through the Jumia affiliate in Kenya?

To become a Jumia affiliate in Kenya, you do not necessarily need to have a website. 

While having a website can help promote products and increase traffic to your affiliate links, it is not mandatory. 

You can still earn commissions by promoting Jumia products through social media platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.

One way to do this is by sharing your referral link on your social media pages or groups. 

This will allow people who click on the link and make purchases to earn you commissions. 

Additionally, you can also write blog posts on other blogging platforms such as Medium or LinkedIn and include your referral link within the content.

So while having a website can be beneficial for promoting Jumia products as an affiliate marketer in Kenya, it is not necessary if you are creative in finding other ways to share your referral link and generate sales.
